Install Joomla 1.5 manually

OK this is another short tutorial on how to install Joomla 1.5 manually on our servers.
While we recommend Fantastico for all the CMS installations, Joomla 1.5 is not yet in Fantastico's list as it's just been released so only manuall installation is possible.

For starters we'll need to download the latest release of Joomla 1.5. Go to joomla.org and click Downloads. Scroll down to the bottom and click the link that says Joomla-1.5.x.zip (x is the release - right now it's 0 so Joomla-1.5.0.zip). Save the file on your computer.

Next you'll need to upload the file on your hosting account. Open the Welcome email and ... well now you have 2 options to upload the file - FTP or Cpanel. If you want to use FTP you'll need a FTP client. We do recommend Filezilla as it's free. Use the settings at the bottom of the Welcome email to connect to the FTP - remember the FTP login information is the same as your Cpanel username and password. Once you're in click on public_html and upload the .zip file there.
If you plan on using Cpanel, login using the information in the Welcome email. Click on Legacy File Manager (we like that one better). If you're on the root lever click the folder next to public_html, if you're in public_html or once you're there, click upload files.

Click Browse, select the archive you've downloaded and click upload. Once the upload is done, you'll be taken back to the public_html folder. Click on the file name.

A menu with options will appear on the upper right side of the screen. Click "Extract file contents".

A popup window will open and extract a lof ot files. When it's done, close the window. Next we'll need to create a database and assign a user to it. To do so please read this tutorial: Create Database

OK once you've done all of the above it's time to run the installation. Open a new browser window and go to yoursite.com - it will redirect you to the installation instructions. These are pretty straight forward, just follow the instructions there, click next next next and you're done. Remember to delete the installation directory once you've installed Joomla 1.5.
